Sectra PACS System Explained From IDS7 to Sectra One Cost and Alternatives

The short answer

Sectra PACS is the enterprise imaging platform from Sectra AB of Sweden, read on the IDS7 workstation and the UniView web viewer. In the US it is now sold mostly as Sectra One Cloud, a subscription with no public price. The one disclosed US figure is a five-year, $21 million contract signed in August 2025.

Search for Sectra PACS and the first page is Sectra talking about Sectra: product pages, press releases, a workflow video. Search for Sectra PACS alternatives and you get software directories, one of which lists a laboratory information system as the top pick. Nobody has put the facts a buyer needs in one place, so here they are.

There are two kinds of readers on this page. The first is a hospital or health system with a PACS replacement on the table and a Sectra One Cloud proposal in hand, trying to work out whether the subscription is priced fairly and what else belongs on the shortlist. The second already runs Sectra, likes it, and is shopping because the radiologists want AI help with the read. Those two people need different answers, and the second one usually does not need a new PACS at all.

Sectra sells the PACS itself: storage, the IDS7 diagnostic workstation, the UniView viewer and, through its Amplifier marketplace, access to third-party AI. Radiological.ai sells none of that. It is an assistant that sits alongside the PACS you already run, flags suspected findings as studies arrive, reorders the worklist and drafts the structured report for the radiologist to sign. You would replace Sectra with another PACS. You would add us to Sectra.

The vendors a US hospital is most often quoted alongside Sectra. Every row is a published fact or a verified public record, not a benchmark we ran.

What to compare Sectra PACS Other enterprise PACS (Fujifilm Synapse, Intelerad, Merge)
Headquarters and US base Linkoping, Sweden. US operations run from Shelton, Connecticut. Fujifilm Healthcare Americas is based in Lexington, Massachusetts, Intelerad in Montreal, and Merge is now part of Merative.
How it is sold now Sectra One, a subscription. Sectra One Cloud runs it as a managed service on Microsoft Azure. Mix of perpetual license plus maintenance, subscription, and hosted or cloud options depending on vendor.
Price published No. The only disclosed US figure is $21 million over five years for one medical center (August 2025). No. None of the enterprise PACS vendors publish a rate card.
Reading workstation IDS7 for diagnostic reading, UniView as the zero-footprint web viewer. Each has its own diagnostic viewer and a web viewer for referrers.
Customer satisfaction Best in KLAS in the US for 13 consecutive years, the 2026 award in enterprise imaging. Varies by segment and year. Ask each vendor for its current KLAS report, not a badge.
AI in the workflow Amplifier marketplace for third-party AI, plus Oxipit chest X-ray AI, acquired April 2026. Most now run an AI marketplace or partner program. Ask which algorithms are live, not listed.
US federal prime awards None under the Sectra name. Any federal use runs through resellers or subcontracts. Check each vendor on USAspending.gov, and read every recipient name.
Switching cost High, like any PACS: priors migration, integrations, hanging protocols and radiologist retraining. The same. Budget migration as its own line item with its own timeline.

Sectra facts come from Sectra product pages, press releases and investor reports, collected September 27, 2026. FDA data is from the openFDA 510(k) database, applicant Sectra AB and Sectra-Imtec AB, retrieved the same day. Federal award data is from USAspending.gov, award types A to D, fiscal 2008 to 2026.

What the public record shows

Sectra in figures a buyer can check

Each figure comes from a named public source. Where a number is missing, it is missing for everyone, including us.

Item Figure What it means for your contract
Largest disclosed US deal $21M over 5 years, $20M guaranteed An unnamed leading US medical center, Sectra One Cloud as a fully managed service, signed August 2025. That is about $4.2 million a year at enterprise scale, not a small-site benchmark.
Recurring revenue share About 70 percent of sales Sectra reported SEK 2,451 million of recurring revenue on SEK 3,542 million of net sales for fiscal 2025/2026. The business is built on renewals, so the renewal clause matters more than the first-year price.
Churn on recurring revenue 0.5 percent Customers rarely leave. That speaks well of the product and also tells you how hard leaving is, so negotiate the exit terms on day one.
Cloud revenue growth Up 55 percent, SEK 916 million Sectra is steering customers to One Cloud. Ask for the on-premise and cloud price side by side before you accept the default.
FDA 510(k) clearances 19, from 1996 to 2024 The PACS and workstation line was last cleared in 2008 (IDS7 v11.3). Recent clearances are for digital pathology.
Named US customers Cooper University Health Care, Carilion Clinic Cooper signed Sectra One in 2022, Carilion selected Sectra to replace its PACS in 2015. Most recent US deals are announced without a customer name, so ask for references at your size.
US federal prime awards 0 A USAspending search on SECTRA returns only an unrelated training contractor and an armored car company. There is no public federal price to benchmark against.

Side by side

Radiological.ai vs Sectra PACS, honestly

A fair look at what each does well. Both are capable tools. Here is where they differ.

What matters Radiological.ai Sectra PACS
What you are buying Software that flags suspected findings on the image, prioritizes the worklist and drafts the structured report. The PACS: image storage, the IDS7 reading workstation, the UniView viewer, VNA and an AI marketplace.
Relationship to your PACS Works alongside it. It reads from the PACS you already run, Sectra included. It is the PACS. Adopting it means replacing the one you have.
Unit of cost Per reading radiologist, published: $399 a month on the Practice plan or $199 a month billed annually, and $598 a month on the Group plan or $299 a month billed annually. Not published. Quoted per enterprise, typically on exam volume, over a multi-year subscription.
Project size Days to weeks. No image migration. Months. Priors migration, interfaces, hanging protocols and training.
Who signs the report The radiologist. The assistant never signs anything. The radiologist, in whichever reporting system you run.
Best suited for Groups happy with their PACS, Sectra or otherwise, who want more studies per radiologist hour. Health systems replacing an end-of-life PACS who want a single enterprise imaging platform with strong satisfaction scores.

Comparison reflects general, publicly understood positioning. Capabilities change, so check each product for the latest.

This page covers one enterprise PACS. For the category, PACS software separates the deployment models, and PACS pricing and cloud PACS cost benchmarks quotes against federal PACS awards and lists the line items every quote bundles.

If the other name on your shortlist is Fujifilm, Fujifilm Synapse PACS alternatives works through that quote the same way, and RamSoft PACS alternatives covers the outpatient imaging center option. For the archive layer on its own, see the best vendor neutral archive for multi-site radiology. If Visage 7 is on the list, Visage PACS cost on 36 disclosed US contracts gives you real deal values to benchmark against.

If the PACS is fine and the real ask is AI, how the assistant integrates with your PACS explains what connects to what, and our pricing is published per radiologist seat.

Why groups pick Radiological.ai

One assistant across the whole read

Separate the PACS decision from the AI decision

Many PACS replacements start because radiologists want AI help, and end as a full PACS migration. If the PACS is working, adding an assistant that reads from it gets the AI benefit in weeks and leaves the platform decision for when the platform actually needs replacing.

Price the subscription on your volume

Sectra One is priced on your usage, and the only public US figure is an enterprise deal worth about $4.2 million a year. Ask for the price per exam at your current volume, the price above and below a 20 percent swing, and the uplift cap at renewal.

Write the exit before you sign

With 0.5 percent churn on recurring revenue, Sectra customers stay. Put in writing how your images, priors and reports are exported at the end of the term, in what format, how fast and at whose cost.

Decision support, a radiologist always signs

Every flag is a prompt to look again and every report is a draft. The responsible radiologist reviews, edits and signs each study. We publish no accuracy figures and make no diagnostic claims.

Good questions

Sectra PACS vs Radiological.ai, answered

Sectra PACS is the picture archiving and communication system from Sectra AB, a Swedish company with US operations in Shelton, Connecticut. Radiologists read on the IDS7 diagnostic workstation, referrers and clinicians use the UniView web viewer, and the platform extends to a VNA and to pathology, cardiology and breast imaging.
Sectra does not publish a price. It sells Sectra One as a subscription priced on usage. The only disclosed US figure is a five-year Sectra One Cloud contract worth $21 million, $20 million guaranteed, signed in August 2025 by an unnamed leading medical center, which works out to about $4.2 million a year at that scale.
IDS7 is the diagnostic reading workstation of Sectra PACS, where radiologists open worklists, view studies and use the 3D and specialty tools. Its worklists sync with UniView, the zero-footprint web viewer. The most recent FDA 510(k) for the workstation line is K081469, cleared June 12, 2008, for IDS7 version 11.3.
Sectra One Cloud is Sectra's enterprise imaging platform delivered as a fully managed service on Microsoft Azure, sold as a subscription instead of a license. Sectra reports its cloud revenue grew 55 percent to SEK 916 million in fiscal 2025/2026, so it is the option a new buyer will usually be offered first.
Yes. Sectra reports 13 consecutive years of Best in KLAS awards in the US, with the 2026 award in enterprise imaging, plus awards in Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Oceania. Ask for the current KLAS report for your segment, since satisfaction at a large academic center may not predict it at a community hospital.
The enterprise PACS most often quoted against Sectra in the US are Fujifilm Synapse, Intelerad, Merge and the Philips and GE platforms, with RamSoft and Novarad common for outpatient imaging centers. If you are happy with Sectra and want AI in the read, an assistant that works alongside the PACS is the alternative to a migration.
Yes. Sectra runs its own Amplifier marketplace for third-party AI, and independent assistants read studies from the PACS over standard DICOM and send results back. The radiologist keeps reading in IDS7. Check that any AI tool you add is FDA cleared for its intended use and that the radiologist still signs every report.
