icometrix icobrain Alternatives After the GE HealthCare Deal
GE HealthCare bought icometrix for about $98 million upfront in November 2025. We line icobrain up against NeuroQuant, DeepHealth Brain, cNeuro, AQUA and Neuroreader on FDA record, ARIA monitoring, price evidence and switching cost, with the questions to ask before you renew.

The short answer: icobrain is brain MRI and CT quantification software from icometrix, a Belgian company with a US office in Boston, and since November 7, 2025 it belongs to GE HealthCare. It measures brain volumes, counts MS lesions and grades ARIA in patients on anti-amyloid drugs. The FDA-cleared alternatives are Cortechs.ai NeuroQuant, DeepHealth Brain (formerly Quantib ND), Combinostics cNeuro, Neurophet AQUA and Neuroreader. Which one fits depends on your MRI fleet, whether you monitor Leqembi or Kisunla patients, and how comfortable you are buying neuro software from a scanner maker.
This page is for the person who has to decide what happens to the icobrain contract: the operations lead at an outpatient imaging center, a neuroradiology group that reports for an MS or memory clinic, or a hospital imaging director whose MRI fleet is Philips or Siemens rather than GE. Search for icometrix today and you get the company site, deal coverage and investor directories. None of it lines icobrain up against the products you would actually replace it with, so we put the clearance record, the ownership facts and the price evidence on one page.
Clearances come from the openFDA 510(k) database, searched by applicant on October 9, 2026. Deal terms come from GE HealthCare's 10-K for 2025 and its 2026 quarterly filings. Federal figures are from USAspending.gov, award types A to D, fiscal 2008 to 2026.
What changed when GE HealthCare bought icometrix?
GE HealthCare announced the deal in September 2025 and closed it on November 7, 2025, buying 100% of icometrix NV. Its filings put the price at roughly $98 million upfront, net of cash acquired, plus earn-out payments of up to $35 million tied to sales targets over two years. Its June 2026 quarterly report says GE is integrating the icometrix platform with its MRI systems.
For a buyer, three things follow from that. First, the earn-out runs on sales, so expect an energetic renewal conversation through 2027. Second, the integration work is on GE scanners. If your fleet is Philips or Siemens, ask in writing what the roadmap is for non-GE sites and whether the vendor-neutral version keeps getting new modules. Third, your contracting counterparty may change. A change of control often triggers an assignment clause, and in healthcare it usually means a new business associate agreement. If the GE entity asks you to re-paper, get the amended BAA in front of your counsel and send the agreement for e-signature before the old one lapses, rather than letting a lapsed agreement sit while studies keep flowing.
The competitive picture shifted too. Philips had shown icobrain with its MRI line at RSNA 2024. A year later, in November 2025, Philips extended its partnership with Cortechs.ai to bring NeuroQuant into its MR systems instead, and Siemens Healthineers added a NeuroQuant module to its Digital Marketplace in March 2026. So the two other big MRI makers now point toward NeuroQuant, and GE points toward icobrain.
Is icobrain FDA cleared, and how does its record compare?
Yes. openFDA lists six 510(k) clearances under icometrix: icobrain K161148 (August 2016), K180326 and K181939 (2018) and K192130 (December 2019), icobrain-ctp K192962 for CT perfusion (February 2020), and icobrain aria K240712 (November 7, 2024). Here is how that sits against the other cleared brain quantification vendors.
| Product | Owner | First clearance | Most recent clearance | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| icobrain | GE HealthCare (icometrix) | K161148, 2016 | icobrain aria K240712, Nov 2024 | ARIA grading, MS, dementia, TBI, CT perfusion |
| NeuroQuant | Cortechs.ai, San Diego | K061855, 2006 | NeuroQuant PET K261916, Aug 2026 | Longest US track record, MS and tumor follow-up, PET |
| DeepHealth Brain (Quantib ND) | RadNet | Quantib Brain K153351, 2016 | Brain WMH K251527, Sep 2025 | Atrophy and white matter lesions |
| cNeuro cMRI | Combinostics, Finland | K171328, 2018 | cNeuro cDAT K233908, Jul 2024 | Multimodal dementia work with PET and DaT |
| Neurophet AQUA | Neurophet, South Korea | K220437, 2023 | AQUA K261273, May 2026 | Atrophy plus an Alzheimer's module (AQUA AD Plus, Jan 2026) |
| Neuroreader | Brainreader, Denmark | K140828, 2015 | Same | Basic volumetrics, no newer clearance found |
One line in that table matters more than the rest for many US sites. Among these six vendors, icobrain aria is the only clearance with ARIA in its name in our search. If you follow patients on lecanemab or donanemab, that is the reason to keep icobrain, and it is the first capability to test in any replacement. Combinostics has an ARIA module approved in Europe but still under FDA review; we cover where that leaves cNeuro sites in cNeuro alternatives after the SyntheticMR deal.
Which icobrain alternative fits which practice?
Memory clinics and centers monitoring anti-amyloid therapy. Monitoring MRI volume went up in August 2025, when the FDA recommended an additional, earlier MRI before the third Leqembi infusion. Every one of those scans is read for ARIA. If that work is a large share of your brain MRI, icobrain aria is hard to replace like for like. Ask any alternative to show you its ARIA output on your own cases, and ask NeuroQuant and Neurophet about their roadmaps in writing.
MS programs. icobrain ms and NeuroQuant both report lesion counts and change over time, and NeuroQuant's MS module now feeds Viz.ai's care coordination workflow (announced July 2026). The deciding question is usually report format: which one your neurologists already read, and which integrates into the EHR they use.
Outpatient imaging centers on Philips or Siemens MRI. NeuroQuant is the path of least resistance, because both scanner makers now distribute it. It is also the package referring neurologists most often ask for by name. Our NeuroQuant alternatives and pricing page has the public price record: 20 federal orders worth $5.9 million, including a $33,988 annual unlimited license at one VA medical center.
RadNet and DeepHealth sites. DeepHealth Brain, the former Quantib ND, comes inside the DeepHealth platform. If you already buy mammography or lung AI from DeepHealth, consolidating there is easy. Read DeepHealth alternatives first, because RadNet also operates imaging centers that may compete with yours.
How much does icobrain cost?
icometrix publishes no price, and there is no federal contract to check it against. USAspending returns zero prime awards to ICOMETRIX as recipient and zero awards mentioning icobrain in the description, from 2008 to 2026. That contrasts with NeuroQuant, which has 20 federal orders, so government buyers who want quantification have historically bought the San Diego product.
Without a public number, the useful comparison is the shape of the quote. NeuroQuant's federal orders are annual site licenses: $33,988 for unlimited use at one facility, and recent service agreements of $64,606 to $69,300 a year. If an icobrain renewal is priced per study, convert it at your real annual volume of brain MRI and monitoring scans and compare the total, then add the cost of rebaselining patients if you switch. For how per-study and subscription pricing behave as volume grows, see how much radiology AI costs.
On the revenue side, the analysis can be billed with Category III CPT codes 0865T and 0866T, in effect since January 1, 2024, and each payer decides whether to pay. Ask your top commercial payers before you count it as income.
What should you ask GE HealthCare before renewing icobrain?
- Who is the contracting entity now, and does the agreement need to be assigned or re-signed, including the BAA?
- What is the roadmap for non-GE MRI sites? Get it in the renewal, not in a slide.
- Is the price fixed for the full term, or does it reset when the product moves onto a GE platform license?
- Which modules are included: ms, dm, tbi, ctp and aria are separate products with separate clearances.
- What happens to your historical reports and baselines if you leave? Ask for an export in a format another package can read.
Switching costs nobody mentions
Brain volumetrics packages do not agree with each other. Published comparisons of NeuroQuant against other tools on the same patients found regional volumes that differ by package, sometimes substantially for small structures. In practice that means a patient followed on icobrain for three years cannot simply continue on NeuroQuant. Plan to rerun a recent baseline on the new package for everyone in active follow-up, and tell referring neurologists the date the report changes. Budget the radiologist time for that, because it is real.
Where a reading assistant fits
Volumetrics answers one question on one study type. It does not shorten the rest of the worklist. If the pressure in your practice is how many studies each radiologist gets through, that is a different purchase. AI medical imaging software explains where detection, quantification and reporting assistance each fit. Radiological.ai flags suspected findings on X-ray, CT and MRI, moves urgent studies up the worklist and drafts the structured report into your template, and it runs beside icobrain or NeuroQuant rather than replacing either. It is priced per reading radiologist on the pricing page, and every flag and every drafted line is reviewed and signed by the radiologist.
