eRAD PACS and eRAD RIS Alternatives for Independent Imaging Centers

eRAD is now part of DeepHealth, owned by RadNet, which runs 442 imaging centers. What that means for an independent center on eRAD PACS or RIS, what the public record shows on price and FDA clearances, and how eRAD compares with RamSoft, Novarad and Intelerad.

The short answer: eRAD PACS and eRAD RIS are now sold as DeepHealth products by RadNet, the outpatient imaging center operator that bought eRAD in 2010 for $10.75 million. If you run an independent imaging center, that means your PACS and RIS vendor also owns 442 centers that may compete with you. The alternatives are a vendor-neutral PACS and RIS such as RamSoft, Novarad, Intelerad or Konica Minolta Exa, or keeping eRAD and adding AI to the read from a vendor that does not operate imaging centers.

Search for eRAD PACS and page one is eRAD's own site, its help server, LinkedIn, two resellers and a few software directories. Nobody puts ownership, price, FDA history and the alternatives on one page. This article does, for the person who actually has to sign: an imaging center owner, practice administrator or radiology group IT lead with an eRAD renewal or a DeepHealth Operations Suite proposal in hand. Every figure below comes from a public filing or database we can point to.

Who owns eRAD?

RadNet owns eRAD. RadNet signed to buy Image Medical Corporation, eRAD's parent, on September 13, 2010 for $10.75 million in cash and promissory notes, and the deal closed on October 1, 2010, according to RadNet's SEC filing. At the time eRAD was a Greenville, South Carolina PACS vendor selling since 1999, with more than 250 customer sites and about 30 staff, 11 of them software engineers in Budapest.

The reason RadNet gave in that same filing is worth reading twice. Its CEO said the deal let RadNet sell to the roughly 6,000 freestanding imaging centers it did not own. In other words, eRAD was bought partly to sell software to RadNet's competitors.

Since then eRAD has been folded into DeepHealth, RadNet's digital health subsidiary, alongside AI companies RadNet bought along the way: Aidence, Quantib, Kheiron, iCAD (closed July 2025, about $103 million in stock), See-Mode and others. At RSNA 2025 DeepHealth said customers on "DeepHealth RIS, previously eRAD RIS" can move to its Operations Suite, while the viewer is still listed as manufactured by eRAD, Inc. For the ownership question across the whole DeepHealth line, our article on whether DeepHealth is owned by RadNet goes deeper.

Why does it matter that RadNet owns my PACS vendor?

It matters because your PACS and RIS hold your referral patterns, exam volumes, payer mix and turnaround times, and the company that owns the software also runs imaging centers. RadNet reported 442 centers in 11 states in its Q2 2026 results. If one of them is in your market, you are paying a competitor's subsidiary to run your operations.

That does not mean anyone is misusing your data. It does mean the contract has to say what it would otherwise leave to trust. RadNet says about 63% of Digital Health revenue in Q2 2026 came from customers outside RadNet, with segment revenue of $32.4 million, up 56.5%. Hunterbrook reported in December 2025 that sales to RadNet's own centers were roughly half of Digital Health revenue. Either way, RadNet's own centers are a very large customer of the product, and roadmap decisions will reflect that.

Before you renew, get these in writing:

  • Data use. A clause stating your de-identified and identified data will not be used for RadNet's imaging center operations, market analysis or AI training without separate written consent.
  • Who can see what. Which DeepHealth and RadNet staff can access your hosted environment, and how access is logged.
  • Exit terms. Export of images, reports and RIS data in standard formats at a stated price, so leaving is not a negotiation from weakness.
  • Product commitment. Whether your version of eRAD RIS keeps getting features or is expected to move to Operations Suite, and whether that move is an upgrade credit or a new contract.

If a competing operator is opening near you, it is also worth keeping an eye on their public moves, such as new locations, price pages and service lines, with a competitor monitoring tool instead of finding out from your referrers.

How much does eRAD PACS cost?

eRAD does not publish PACS or RIS prices, and nobody outside eRAD and its customers knows the current list. The only public price data we found is federal: six awards to ERAD, INC. of Greenville, all from the Indian Health Service in Pawnee, Oklahoma, between 2007 and 2013, for the PACS, an HL7 interface, a server and viewer support.

The text search for ERAD returns about 1,770 rows, almost all name collisions such as Teradyne, Ceradyne, Veradigm and Intelerad, so every recipient name was read by hand. That is a single small clinic over a decade ago, so treat it as proof the product was bought, not as a price benchmark. For a benchmark, our PACS pricing and cloud PACS cost breakdown sets quotes against hundreds of federal PACS awards across vendors.

What an eRAD quote should itemize, so you can compare it line for line with an alternative:

  • PACS license or subscription, per study or per site, and what counts as a study.
  • RIS modules: scheduling, billing interface, patient portal, mammography tracking.
  • Hosting, or the hardware and storage you buy for on premises.
  • Each HL7 or FHIR interface to your EHR, billing system and referrers.
  • Migration of priors in and out, priced now rather than at exit.
  • Annual support as a percentage, and the cap on increases.

Is eRAD PACS FDA cleared?

Yes. openFDA lists five 510(k) clearances for eRAD, all product code LLZ (radiological image processing software), all found substantially equivalent. The newest is K241223 for eRAD PACS, October 31, 2024. We found no FDA recalls for eRAD or DeepHealth software. A search for "erad" in the recall database only matches unrelated catheters.

eRAD vs RamSoft vs Novarad vs Intelerad

These are the names an independent imaging center usually puts next to eRAD. The table sticks to public facts. None of the four publishes a price.

Each of the other three has its own page with the same treatment: RamSoft PACS alternatives, Novarad PACS alternatives and Intelerad PACS alternatives. If a Konica Minolta X-ray quote has PACS bundled in, Exa PACS alternatives covers that one. And if the RIS is the real question, radiology information system software compares RIS vendors for imaging centers.

What are the alternatives to eRAD PACS?

There are two honest alternatives, and they solve different problems. The first is to replace eRAD with a PACS and RIS from a vendor that does not run imaging centers. That is the right move if the ownership question is a dealbreaker for you or your partners, or if the move to Operations Suite is being priced as a new contract anyway. Budget for priors migration, interface rebuilds and staff training as their own line, because they often cost more than the first year of license.

The second is to keep eRAD and change what happens during the read. That fits when the PACS works but the radiologists are the bottleneck: too many studies, slow turnaround, critical findings sitting in the queue. Replacing a PACS does nothing for that.

Can I add AI to eRAD PACS without replacing it?

Yes. An AI assistant receives studies from eRAD PACS over standard DICOM, the same way a modality or a second viewer would, and sends its results back to the worklist and the reporting workflow. DeepHealth sells its own AI products too, which keeps PACS, RIS and AI inside RadNet. A vendor-neutral assistant keeps the read separate from the company that owns your PACS.

That is what Radiological.ai does. It flags suspected findings as studies arrive, moves urgent studies up the worklist and drafts the structured report for the radiologist to edit and sign. It is decision support, not a diagnosis. Pricing is published per reading radiologist on our pricing page, and the trial runs on your own studies, with no image migration.

Is eRAD a good PACS for an independent imaging center?

On the product alone, it has a long record: on the market since 1999, a 2024 FDA clearance and no recalls we could find. The question for an independent center is less the software than the owner. If RadNet has no centers near you and you are comfortable with the data terms in writing, staying is reasonable and cheaper than migrating. If RadNet competes for your referrers, a vendor that does not run imaging centers takes the question off the table, and the time to decide is before you sign a multi-year Operations Suite agreement, not after.
