The short answer: lung nodule AI software cost has a public benchmark in VA ClearRead CT orders. Single-site orders run from $24,000 to $48,750, while multi-module or regional orders run from $97,500 to $246,790. These are negotiated purchases, not a published ClearRead CT price list. Compare the scope before treating an amount as your budget.
This guide is for an imaging director, screening program lead or practice owner comparing lung nodule CAD cost before signing a quote. It covers purchase evidence, cost per study and contract questions. For a product comparison alongside the numbers, see ClearRead CT alternatives.
Sources are the verified USAspending prime-award records, award types A to D, and openFDA 510(k) records collected October 20, 2026. Product statements are attributed to the vendor. Economic findings come from the 2023 Insights into Imaging study and the 2025 UK NIHR systematic review. Assumptions in the worked example are labeled.
How much does lung nodule AI software cost?
Use $24,000 to $48,750 as the single-site ClearRead CT benchmark, then ask what your quote includes. The larger orders below include broader licenses, modules or maintenance descriptions. The public descriptions do not establish an identical term or entitlement across purchases.
| Order | Buyer and date | What it bought | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36C10B26F0396 | VA, September 16, 2026 | ClearRead CT and ClearRead X-ray maintenance and licensing, via Minburn Technology Group | $246,790 |
| 36A79721N0377 | VA, June 25, 2021 | ClearRead CT upgrade including Vessel Suppress and Detect | $213,120 |
| 36C24125P0163 | VA, December 18, 2024 | Riverain ClearRead software | $212,663 |
| 36C26025P0217 | VA, December 10, 2024 | ClearRead Bone Suppress and Vessel Suppress software, support and maintenance | $108,487 |
| 36C26121P0765 | VA, March 30, 2021 | ClearRead | $101,000 |
| 36C25821N0321 | VA, July 15, 2021 | Riverain ClearRead licenses | $97,500 |
| 36C24421P0592 | VA, June 30, 2021 | ClearRead CT Vessel and Suppress software | $97,500 |
| 36C26123P0223 | VA, December 1, 2022 | ClearRead CT imaging AI software and licenses | $74,760 |
| 36C26021P1062 | VA, September 3, 2021 | Modality license description naming CT Vessel Suppress and Detect and another CT modality item | $48,750 |
| 36C24422P0762 | VA, September 28, 2022 | ClearRead CT Vessel Suppression and Detect software | $48,750 |
| 36C24725F0273 | VA, July 18, 2025 | ClearRead CT software | $24,000 |
| 36C24621N0734 | VA, April 7, 2021 | ClearRead CT imaging software | $24,000 |
| 36C24725P0413 | VA, May 25, 2025 | ClearRead PM services, base of 4 | $20,048 |
A federal order is one buyer's negotiated price on one date. It is a benchmark, not a list price. The $20,048 services order is not a detection license, and a description saying only ClearRead cannot establish which CT modules were included. Do not turn these rows into interchangeable packages.
For a ClearRead CT cost comparison, ask the supplier to reconcile its quote with the relevant order description. A package naming CT and X-ray maintenance answers a different purchasing question from a CT detection license. Keep the order identifier in your comparison sheet so the scope remains attached to the amount.
What do the 92 Riverain orders tell a buyer?
USAspending records 92 prime awards to Riverain Technologies, all from the Department of Veterans Affairs, totaling $17,167,903, about $17.17 million. The median award is $86,750. Those figures describe Riverain's VA award record, not a typical lung nodule license.
Many orders sit under the VHA National Teleradiology Program, or NTP, by Veterans Integrated Service Network, or VISN, and carry descriptions such as XR CT. Peak years are 2023 at $4.92 million and 2024 at $4.00 million. The mix matters when researching Riverain ClearRead pricing because broader X-ray and CT purchases cannot establish a CT-only rate.
The named-product table also includes a reseller purchase through Minburn, distinct from the direct Riverain recipient search. When repeating a keyword search, exclude Optelec ClearReader magnifiers. Those are unrelated low-vision devices, despite the similar name, and including them corrupts a ClearRead software comparison.
How much does ClearRead CT cost per study?
The public orders do not supply a universal per-study price. A worked example can still make a quote comparable. Start with the $48,750 ClearRead CT order and assume 2,000 low-dose CT screens a year over three years. Both the volume and the allocation period are assumptions, not published license terms.
| Calculation | Result |
|---|---|
| Assumed annual screens multiplied by assumed years | 2,000 multiplied by 3 equals 6,000 studies |
| Order amount divided by assumed studies | $48,750 divided by 6,000 equals $8.125 per study, about $8.13 |
This allocates the purchase amount only. It excludes any separately quoted maintenance, integration or renewal charges and does not assume the order grants three years of use. Replace the denominator with eligible studies and the numerator with your quoted total over the same period.
Ask the vendor to show the same calculation for its proposed contract. If payment is per study, specify which examinations trigger a charge. If payment is per site, confirm the covered location and modules. Without those definitions, a lower headline amount does not establish a lower cost for your program.
The 2023 Insights into Imaging study found that deep-learning nodule CAD needs pricing well below EUR 6 per case under pay-per-case billing, or high workload, to break even in lung cancer screening. That finding is not a ClearRead price. The example uses dollars, so do not compare the amounts as though currencies and economic assumptions were identical. The useful lesson is to test volume before accepting a per-study rate.
Why do Coreline, Infervision and Fujifilm have no public price?
No vendor in this category publishes a price list. The verified records therefore cannot supply an AVIEW Lung Nodule CAD price, an InferRead Lung CT price or a Synapse Lung Nodule AI subscription rate. Request comparable quotes rather than assigning competitors the VA's ClearRead amounts.
Clearance records identify products, not prices. FDA product code OEB covers lung computed tomography computer-aided detection systems, a class II category under 21 CFR 892.2050. The openFDA record contains 20 OEB clearances since 2003. Its entries since 2015 include the following.
| Vendor and product | OEB clearance and date |
|---|---|
| Fujifilm Synapse Lung Nodule AI | K254075, May 27, 2026 |
| Coreline Soft AVIEW Lung Nodule CAD | K251203, December 3, 2025; earlier K221592, February 24, 2023 |
| Infervision InferRead Lung CT.AI | K240554, May 16, 2025; earlier K192880, July 2, 2020 |
| V5med Lung AI | K242919, March 27, 2025 |
| Siemens syngo.CT Lung CAD VD30 | K231157, July 19, 2023; also K203258 in 2021, K193216 in 2020 and K143196 in 2015 |
| Riverain ClearRead CT | K221612, December 5, 2022; first K161201, September 9, 2016 |
| MeVis Veolity | K201501, February 23, 2021 |
Ask for the K number covering the quoted product and intended use. For ClearRead CT K221612, the indication is computer-assisted reading of pulmonary nodules on screening and surveillance low-dose chest CT in non-oncology patients. It is adjunctive and does not replace the original series.
Is lung nodule AI worth the cost for a screening program?
The 2025 UK NIHR systematic review found that AI-assisted reading dominated unaided reading in screening populations, but not in symptomatic populations. That supports evaluating screening economics separately. It does not establish a return for every chest CT service.
Build your AI lung cancer screening software cost model around eligible screening volume. A fixed license is spread across the studies actually processed, while a per-study quote changes with usage. Test the economics against your own workload and reading process. Do not apply a screening finding to symptomatic examinations to make the purchase look better.
Map where detection results reach the reader and how confirmed nodules reach the report before estimating savings. Our AI lung cancer screening workflow guide helps frame that review. Keep purchase economics and workflow assumptions visible to the same decision makers.
What should go in a lung nodule AI quote?
- Pricing unit and term. State per-site versus per-study billing, covered locations, eligible examinations and the license duration. Ask how changes in volume affect payment.
- Named modules. Separate Vessel Suppress from Detect and identify any X-ray components. Riverain says ClearRead CT suppresses vessels and then flags nodules. Specify which functions you are buying.
- Maintenance scope. Separate support from licensing. VA order 36C24725P0413 lists $20,048 for ClearRead PM services, base of 4. That wording does not establish your annual maintenance rate or what the four cover.
- PACS series delivery. Riverain says results appear as an extra series and work with any CT scanner and PACS. Require a demonstration in your reading environment and written integration responsibilities.
- Input requirements. Riverain's flyer specifies slice thickness of 3 mm or less. Confirm which local protocols qualify before counting them in the volume forecast.
- The applicable K number. Put the product version, intended use and supporting clearance in the quote. Match these to screening or surveillance examinations rather than assuming every chest CT qualifies.
- Renewal caps and notice. Request the uplift cap, notice deadline and treatment of module additions. Put any agreed limits in the contract.
Per-site licenses, maintenance plans and per-seat subscriptions can renew on different dates and drift upward. Ask finance to track them with renewal and spend alerts so maintenance contracts do not quietly auto-renew before review. Compare the total with the other categories in our radiology AI cost guide.
Where does a reading assistant fit in the budget?
Radiological.ai is a decision-support assistant. It flags suspected findings, including suspected pulmonary nodules on chest CT, places diameter and volume measurements on nodules the radiologist confirms, and pulls the matching nodule from the prior study. It prioritizes the worklist and drafts a structured Lung-RADS report or house template with the nodule table populated.
The radiologist confirms every nodule, assigns the category and signs. The assistant works alongside existing PACS over DICOM, with results returned over HL7 or FHIR. The AI lung nodule detection workflow describes that role.
Practice includes X-ray and CT at $199 per reading radiologist per month billed annually, or $399 month to month. Budget that per-reader subscription alongside any separately purchased detection license. Review ClearRead CT alternatives for the product comparison, then use our published pricing to cost the reading-assistant part of your workflow.
